Arvalam Waterfalls
It's the time when most of the Goans return to their ancestral villages and
homes. Celebrated during August-September, the Ganesh Chaturthi is held to
mark the birthday of Lord Ganesh, the elephant god. The pomp and show on the
occasion is surely something to experience. Owing to Goa's close proximity
to the state of Maharashtra, the festival takes on a much lively scene.
People from all over the state take part and celebrate the festival with
their relatives, family and friends.
Dudhsagar Waterfall
Yet another must-see for tourists in Goa is the Dudhsagar Waterfall,
situated close to the Karnataka-Goa border. Cascading down from a height of
600 m, the waterfall is considered to be the highest in the country. The
tropical forest, in the midst of which the waterfall lies, make the panorama
even more absorbing. This wonderful spot can only be accessed on foot or by
a jeep. Overlooking a steep crescent shaped valley, the waterfall also forms
a few pools, that can prove to a delight for swimmers.
Travellers can first take a train to the Dudhsagar Railway Station.
Further, they can walk up to the spot. They can also avail the option of
hiring a jeep from the village Colem, positioned at the railway junction.
Kesarval Springs
Visitors to Goa always seem to be keen to make a visit to this natural
water spring. The spring is at a distance of 22 km from Panaji and occupies
a position on the Verna plateau, off the Panaji-Margao Highway. The spring
come out of hard rocks. People don't miss a bath here as they believe that
the water of the spring has got medicinal properties. The beauty of the
gushing spring can be experienced during the monsoons. Today, the spring
serves as a natural spa. Seeing the popularity and the beauty of the spot,
even the Tourism Department has declared it an important tourism
destination.
Take the national highway leading to Margao to get to the Kesarval Springs
and soak up the charm that awaits you there.
